When deciding to keep invasive or synanthropic species, it is worth carefully considering the purchase. Currently, it is believed that among invasive species in Poland, only Solenopsis invicta, Lasius neglectus, and Linepithema humile can pose problems as they are quite resistant to frost. Theoretically, however, it is not possible to exclude the possibility of any other invasive species establishing themselves here. On the other hand, when it comes to synanthropic species such as Monomorium pharaonis, you should be aware that a colony consisting of thousands of workers can settle in your home, and if you live in an apartment building, it can expand and become a nuisance not only to you but also to your neighbors. There have even been cases where ants of this species have traveled through sewage pipes to other residential blocks. Nowadays, getting rid of ants of this type is not difficult but can be costly. Even experienced breeders experience escapes, so you should always assume that the next one could happen to you.
