Description
Camponotus fallax is considered one of the most attractive species in Poland due to its graceful proportions and coloring. They are relatively small for this genus. The queen establishes the first generation monastically, meaning she does not leave the new nest after mating flights until the first workers appear. They mainly inhabit moist forests and establish nests in the dry parts of trees, often in tree canopies. They lead a secretive lifestyle and primarily forage at night, rarely venturing down to the ground, making them challenging to observe. Swarming occurs between May and June. Colonies can reach several hundred workers, and sometimes the workers can resemble queens in appearance.
