Description
These tubes are perfectly suited for connecting nests, test tubes, and outworlds, for making adapters, as well as for use in insect aspirators.
For the genus Camponotus and ants of similar size, we recommend 8x10 mm tubing.
For the genus Monomorium and ants of similar size, 4x6 mm.
For all other genera, 6x8 mm.
The 10x14 mm tubing is practically suitable only for massive colonies of large ants to ensure maximum throughput, or as an adapter piece from a test tube to an outworld or nest.
When it comes to insect aspirators (pooters), we recommend using the 10x14 mm tubing as the wider tube. For the narrower suction tube, we recommend 6x8 mm for indoor use, and 8x10 mm for collecting wild colonies outdoors. The narrower tube provides stronger suction, but it clogs more easily with small stones, leaves, or soil, so it is not suitable for catching colonies outdoors.
The tubing sizes fit snugly inside each other sequentially: 4x6 mm fits inside 6x8 mm, 6x8 mm fits inside 8x10 mm, and 8x10 mm fits inside 10x14 mm. In turn, 10x14 mm fits snugly directly into our test tubes. This allows for seamless, modular connections between different nests, outworlds, and test tubes.
