Description
Widely distributed ant species in Southern and Eastern Africa, known as the African Sugar Ant. The queens and workers are of medium size and have a beautiful, golden-shimmering abdomen. They inhabit the soil in grassy areas but can also be found under stones and in human-made habitats such as banana plantations. Colony growth is relatively slow, but after a few years, mature colonies can contain thousands of individuals.
