Description

A rare breed in ant farming, the Messor muticus species can grow a colony up to about 5,000 workers. The ants are peaceful and easy to keep, featuring a soldier caste, making them a good alternative to the more common Messor barbarus. Muticus are slightly smaller and their colonies grow to a smaller size; they are also significantly rarer, so if someone prefers convenience and uniqueness for the cost of a few dollars or euros, this is the species for them. Like all Messor species, these ants also feed on seeds.
