Description
Description:
Messor cephalotes, the largest species of Messor, inhabits the eastern part of Africa. These ants create long trails to gather seeds, from which they produce ant bread, a primary element of their diet. The colonies are characterized by aggression, a high appetite (they consume everything, leaving only chitin), and distinct castes. This species has caused soil degradation by removing green vegetation, resulting in bare lands in the Meserani area, located in the Arusha District in northeastern Africa.
Here you can watch a video comparing them to Messor barbarus. (https://photos.app.goo.gl/uaM96FwWbQrLiAfBA)
