Description
Description:
Cunicularia form relatively small colonies, numbering in the range of a few thousand individuals, typically in the ground or under stones. They have excellent vision, which they often use during hunting. They cultivate aphids as a source of honeydew, steal nectar, and sometimes even gather sweet secretions from caterpillars or scale insects. They spew acid during battles. They avoid conflicts with other ants, but Formica sanguinea raids them mercilessly. It is a polymorphic species. They are excellent ants for beginners - easy to keep, resilient to mistakes, moderately large and attractive, and their colony size will not overwhelm even novice ant keepers. They are primarily active during the day.
