Description
A special substrate particularly dedicated to millipides, beetles, and more demanding, expensive isopods. The preparation involves selecting ingredients in the right proportions to initiate the fermentation process. The bacteria multiplying in the substrate break down wood pellets and wood rot—the main components of flake soil—resulting in a very fertile bio-humus that resembles soil in texture. The entire process of creating flake soil takes about a month.
We have heard that some people sell "flake soil" made from leaves and flower pot soil with a bit of wood rot. Our flake soil is a high-quality substrate. It is based on a mixture of wood pellets and worm castings in a 4:1 ratio. Flour, sugar, and brewer's yeast are then added. The mixture is maintained at a temperature above 40°C (104°F), regularly mixed, and has an unpleasant odor for most of the production process. The finished product has a pleasant smell.
