Description
Decaying Hardwood for Isopods, Millipedes and Beetles – Nutrition and Shelter
Decaying hardwood is an essential component in substrate mixes and diet for isopods, millipedes, and beetle larvae. Animals readily live in or beneath it while slowly consuming it. We ship valuable so-called white rot wood – exclusively – which is precisely what retains vital nutritional value for invertebrates.
Natural condition and moisture: The wood does not undergo any thermal or chemical processing – it reaches you in a 100% raw, natural state. Depending on harvest conditions and batch, it may be shipped completely wet, damp, or dry.
Volume calculation: Volume is measured just like commercial timber (bulk volume) – 1 liter means pieces that loosely fit into a 1-liter bag, including the natural air gaps between them.
Preparation (optional): Because this is a raw forest product, harmless woodland micro-organisms may be present. If you require absolute purity:
- Recommended method: crumble the wood into small pieces and soak in water for about 2 weeks (safely eliminates wild hitchhikers while preserving valuable nutrients).
- Quick method (convenient, but less recommended): scald the wood with boiling water before adding it to the terrarium.
