Description
The largest springtails in Europe! They can grow up to a whopping 7mm (0.28 inches), and according to some sources, even up to 8 mm (0.31 inches). They have a relatively slow lifestyle, so they are not particularly efficient cleaners, but they will surely make an impression in your terrarium due to their size and beautiful blue-violet color.
Note: This species is quite peculiar - they will live normally at room temperature but won't reproduce. They reproduce at temperatures around 2-8°C (35-46°F). It's best to transfer a portion of the colony to the refrigerator to allow them to reproduce, and then move the young ones to the final terrarium.
There may be harmless mites among them - saprophages, which is completely normal in springtail breeding and eventually occurs in most households and breeding setups. Various other microorganisms may also be present, which are commonly found in homes and breeding environments
