Description
Mineralized Clay for Springtails
This one mix will satisfy all your requirements. On one hand, breeding will be fast, clean, and convenient, and on the other, your springtails will enjoy excellent health, while also becoming a maximally nutritious food for your main pets.
Introducing our new, professional substrate for breeding springtails, created on the basis of finely ground clay with added sand. It is the ideal foundation for efficient and incredibly nutritious colonies, combining only natural, carefully selected ingredients. It is a true mineral bomb, which includes, among others, calcium, calcium carbonate (~2%), iron oxide (~6%), as well as oxides of magnesium, potassium, manganese, and a host of other key micro- and macroelements.
Why is Our Mineralized Clay the Best Choice?
- Cleanliness and Convenience of Breeding: Breeding on a mineral substrate minimizes the risk of unwanted guests, such as mites or fungus gnats. Moreover, it allows for fabulously easy harvesting of springtails – just flood the container with water, and they will float to the surface.
- Innovative Formula – Solving the Pure Clay Problem: We have solved the main problem of pure clay – its tendency to shrink and pull away from the container walls. Thanks to the optimal ratio of clay to sand, our substrate maintains a stable structure in most cases, and the sand particles increase porosity and living surface area for the development of beneficial bacterial biofilms – the main food of springtails.
- Turbocharge for Reproduction: The abundance and multiple sources of calcium in the substrate cause the springtails to molt very quickly and frequently. This directly translates to faster growth, earlier maturity, and a significant increase in the reproduction rate of the entire colony.
- Built-in "Gut-Loading": We are aware that many keepers breed springtails as feeder animals. The composition of our mix is optimized so that the springtails, by feeding on it, "load up" on calcium and minerals. As a result, they become a complete and much more valuable food for reptiles, amphibians, or insects.
For Which Springtail Species?
Our mix is perfect for breeding all springtails that do not need to burrow, such as:
- "Common" gray and white springtails (e.g., Folsomia candida)
- Ceratophysella sp. "Lilac"
- Onychiurinae sp. "Snowflakes"
- Orchesella sp.
It is also quite suitable for species that burrow, but not obligatorily, such as Yuukianura sp.
Instructions for Use and Yield
The substrate is ready to use. The process is extremely simple:
- Pour the substrate into your chosen breeding container.
- Add a little water to achieve the consistency of thick mud.
- Place the springtails on the surface. Done!
How much substrate do I need? You will use approximately 10% of the volume of the container in which you intend to breed. For example, for a 1-liter container, you need about 100 ml of substrate, for a 250 ml container – 25 ml, etc. Depending on the preferred layer thickness, the consumption may be less or more.
Choose a professional, mineral substrate that guarantees breeding stability, ease of harvesting, and the highest nutritional value for your feeder animals!
