Description
Description:
Thief ant,' as it is commonly known, earned its name due to its natural behavior of constructing nests adjacent to those of larger ant species. These resourceful ants create intricate networks of tunnels, allowing them to infiltrate the host nest and pilfer their brood. However, thief ants also exhibit solitary nesting behavior, during which they depend on root aphids to fulfill their dietary needs.
Fugax ants have stingers and a major worker caste. They are highly aggressive, and their colonies can reach hundreds of thousands of individuals. In my opinion, they are a great alternative to Solenopsis invicta. A larger colony of this species can grow rapidly under favorable conditions, and I have witnessed colonies with thousands of pupae. Fortunately, due to the smaller size of individual workers, even such a large group does not take up much space.
