Description
The species is known for forming very small colonies, consisting of up to 60 workers. In some cases, there may be more than one queen in a colony, and in such instances, colonies can exceed this limit, reaching sizes of up to 100 workers. Swarming occurs late, between August and September. The workers have a calm disposition and primarily forage individually, making them difficult to locate precisely. They nest mainly in the soil or under stones, choosing well-sunned spots. Typical of ponerinae, the queens can be distinguished from the workers mainly by their larger thorax ,they possess a stinger. Compared to most Polish species, they stand out with their unusual build - slim, elongated, and with small eyes. When hungry, they become aggressive within the nest and can even kill each other. They thrive in humid environments.
