Odontoponera transversa
Odontoponera transversa is an impressive representative of the Ponerinae subfamily from the rainforests of Southeast Asia. Often called "living fossils" due to their primitive biology, these fascinating exotic ants are surprisingly among the easiest ponerines to maintain. They are well suited for daring beginners who do not mind their venomous sting. A huge advantage is that they cannot climb smooth glass or acrylic surfaces.
Their greatest appeal lies in their specialized predatory behavior. Hunting individually or in pairs, they track prey dynamically. Lacking advanced trophallaxis, each worker forages and feeds independently.
