Description
Description:
Beautiful, black, and quite sizable Monomorium ants. Rare in breeding. Like most Monomorium species, they practice inbreeding, with new queens and males appearing in the nest to mate. The colony from which my colony was separated originates from the Canary Islands, but all the queens are bred in Europe. Carbonarium ants belong to the same species group as floricola and chinense, but they are much larger and pitch-black.
They have rapid development, prefer warmth, are highly voracious, and remain active throughout the day. They have slightly weaker escaping tendencies compared to most Monomorium ants. At the moment, there is no evidence of them being invasive, but they have the potential to become so.
