Dinomyrmex gigas is the largest known ant species in the world. It has been a dream of many ant enthusiasts and was not available for sale in Poland until recently.

They occur naturally in Southeast Asia. Their diet consists mostly of sweet honeydew, which can be replaced with honey in breeding. They also willingly consume various insects and bird droppings.

Colonies can reach several thousand individuals and often create satellite nests. According to our local sources, they prefer nesting in dead wood, but initially, the queens dig burrows in the ground, similar to Camponotus ligniperda. The difference is that the queens and soldiers of Dinomyrmex are over 3 centimeters (1.18 inches) long!
