Description
Sold specimens are approximately 1-2cm (0.39-0.79 inches).
These are very large millipides, growing up to about 14cm (5.51 in) in body length. They have orange coloration with slightly green rings at the segments. They naturally originate from Tanzania. They feed on dead forest matter; in captivity, this consists of a mix of soil with leaves, wood rot, and calcium. Additionally, it is beneficial to provide juicy fruits or vegetables and protein such as Gammarus. They are trouble-free to care for and ideal for beginners in terrarium keeping. When disturbed, they emit an unpleasant-smelling secretion to deter predators. They are nocturnal and adults do not burrow into the ground but prefer to hide under elements of the enclosure’s decor. It is recommended to provide at least 10cm (3.94 in) of substrate depth to allow for easy reproduction. These are harmless and very beneficial arthropods. They can also be kept in a terrarium or vivarium.
