Description
Reticulitermes cf. lucifugus is a species of termites found in the regions of Provence in Italy and North America. They form numerous colonies with approximately one million individuals. The workers measure about 5 mm (0.2 in), while the queen measures 6 mm (0.24 in), with her abdomen enlarging several times as the number of workers in the colony increases. They nest in the soil and feed on cellulose materials, or they may enter buildings in search of cardboard, paper, and softwood such as parquet, beams, or wooden products. In captivity, they can be fed with moist paper and decayed matter.
