Description

Deroplatys, often called the dead leaf mantis due to its coloration and large flattened pronotum, is a fascinating species. D. desiccata is the largest representative of this prestigious title. When threatened, they employ a rather unusual defense mechanism for mantises—falling onto their backs and playing dead. In the wild, they are found in parts of Asia. In captivity, they are easy to care for, requiring room temperature and misting every 1-2 days.
