Description
Description:
A good species for beginners. They are easy to keep, affordable, have a soldier caste, and don't require much space. They have a fast development rate, but not excessively so. They can be heated, but they also thrive at room temperature. They can survive without hibernation, but hibernation accelerates colony growth and extends the queen's lifespan.
In the wild, colony size rarely exceeds 20,000 individuals. The queen establishes the colony in a claustral manner and raises the first generation of workers herself.
They are excellent for vivariums due to their territorial behavior, high worker activity outside the nest, and a diet primarily composed of protein.
